The agricultural industry must produce high quality affordable food and non-food products whilst meeting the increasing demands for environmental protection, traceability and safety. This has increased the demand for appropriately qualified agricultural business managers with the knowledge, understanding and ability to sustain a viable and progressive agricultural economy. This course builds on agricultural and agricultural business knowledge from previous studies to provide the necessary business expertise required of future agricultural enterprise managers.
Course Structure
The course is based on a modular structure, with a core of compulsory modules covering current affairs within the agricultural industry and an integrated farm project requiring the production of a business plan for a specific farm business, together with an individual research enquiry. Additional elective modules provide an opportunity for either further specialisation in specific sector areas or a broader understanding of agriculture, land-use and business issues. If you have already secured employment, you may elect to study up to 50% of the course based in the workplace, thus reducing the time required to attend campus-based modules.

What you need to join the Course
The normal entry requirement will be a foundation degree or HND award passed with a merit profile in a cognate subject acceptable for entry to the specific honours pathway. Depending on previous studies, you may also be required, following individual interview, to complete additional ‘bridging’ studies prior to enrolling on the honours course in order to cover identified gaps in previous learning.
Career Opportunities
As a leading educator, serving the agricultural and rural business sectors, we are well placed to provide networking opportunities for graduates interested in careers in the agricultural and rural industries.
Typical employers of graduates from this course will include large farming companies, agricultural advisory agencies, and agricultural supply companies. Alternatively, the course provides the knowledge and understanding to enable you to return to family-run businesses and make a positive contribution or to continue on to higher degrees at masters level.
