Course Structure
All students will complete modules relating to basic business principles. Students studying agriculture, equine, business and land use courses also cover modules on agricultural and food systems, and environmental science and policy. More course-specific modules then make up the balance and are delivered through a particular school – Agriculture, Business or Real Estate and Land Management.
In the second year, students study modules provided mainly by their school and focused partly on their specific course. In the Schools of Agriculture and Business, all students take a sandwich placement period of six months, equivalent to two modules, beginning after the Easter vacation. In the final year, all modules are course-specific and relate directly to the student’s chosen career.
All honours students undertake an individual dissertation on a subject of their own choice under the personal supervision of a tutor. Teaching throughout all of our undergraduate courses includes study visits to farms, businesses and estates. There is alsothe opportunity to hear visiting speakers from other colleges or universities, from professional firms and from a wide range of agricultural and food companies. Assessment is by means of a combination of examinations and coursework (some modules are assessed entirely by coursework), including some group projects.
International Study Opportunities
The RAC has signed agreements with universities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US enabling students registered on full-time undergraduate programmes to undertake their second year of studies overseas. Further opportunities may also be available within Europe, depending on an individual’s language competencies and the availability of suitable programmes of study.
Any student wishing to take such an opportunity will be supported by the College to identify the most appropriate programme and modules to study such that a clear progression route is mapped out and credits achieved from the international study period can be substituted directly for those in the second year of the RAC programme for which they are registered.
The College is also part of the Erasmus exchange programme within Europe and has an extended Erasmus Charter enabling student study and placement activities to be undertaken within Europe, subject to funding agreements with receiving institutions.
