Brick & Block Laying

This course begins with the basics of brick and block work, the types, manufacture and use. Learn and develop the skill of laying mortar beds and construction simple brick designs, different pointing methods, finishes and colours. It then follows into a more advanced insight into brick and block work, covering the construction of various wall types and bonds. You will learn how to build arches and various ornamental features including the use of reconstituted stone.

Dry Stone Walling Module 1 – Introduction

An introductory course for beginners that shows you how to build a wall from foundation to capping. You will dismantle old walls, select, prepare and lay stone.

Dry Stone Walling Module 2 – Garden & Walling Features

A course that will allow the waller to expand their experience. The course will show you how to lay stone for features such as wall ends, corners and pillars. A course for people who are undertaking the more difficult wall.

Hedge Laying

Hedge laying is an important part of boundary maintenance and conservation. During this introduction course you will learn the techniques and principles behind the styles and procedures, the use of hand tools and their maintenance.

Hurdle Making

This course is for people who would like to make their own traditional hazel hurdle, you will be taught to build a hurdle and if you don’t finish it on the course you will be given enough material to finish it at home.  You will also discuss the environmental conservation of hazel coppice.
