School of RELM
RELM is the biggest School at the RAC, delivering learning in rural and urban property, management and development. RELM staff are keen to develop activities to support, enthuse and inspire young people who want to explore the property world. The School of RELM provides opportunities to discover courses and careers through real experience of university life and learning, so get involved!
So what’s it all about?
Property / Real Estate
Flats, cottages, new build, town and country houses; around 1.7 million properties are sold each year in England and Wales with an even greater number rented out. Covering all aspects of residential and commercial real estate, the school of RELM have courses which include selling, letting, construction, re-development plus the legal and professional aspects of being in the property industry. Almost all aspects of property industry involve a varied and diverse amount of work with a large amount of contact with sellers, purchasers and all the associated other professionals.
Rural Land Management
Fancy managing some of the most beautiful rural areas and estates or perhaps our woodlands or waterways? Then a career in land management is for you. Every element of our countryside, from the unspoilt national parks to the edges of towns, requires management to retain its character whilst meeting the demands and needs of the owners. The Rural Land Management course covers subjects such as agriculture, land management, woodlands, property and construction plus the associated legal and professional aspects of managing land and property. Graduates from the course go on to work for national and local firms, big and small, managing every aspect of our countryside.
What exactly can we do?
Taster sessions and activities for schools and colleges are available, which can be general or can focus on specific units or topics from the National Curriculum to enhance what you’re doing in school. Whether you’ve got a strong passion for property or land management already, or if you just want to know what it involves, you’d be very welcome to join us in our activities. Activities at the College
Activities may be full lectures, interactive workshops or estate /property visits. The sessions are designed to get you involved and enthused, whatever your learning preference. Below are some ideas to get you thinking, but there’s nothing to stop you getting in touch to discuss other opportunities!

Residential Schools
The School of RELM is involved in the UniTaster 2011 residential school, which is running in the third week of July 2011. The residential not only gives you a chance to explore learning, but provides the perfect opportunity to fully experience and be a part of life at university. The residential is very rewarding and you’ll certainly have heaps of fun. Alternatively, you can be part of the 2-day Taster Course event at the RAC, which allows you to explore all the land-based careers – including RELM.
