School of Business

The School of Business attracts students from all over the world. Staff are enthusiastic and dedicated to providing opportunities for young learners to explore the business world. The School presents activity taster days and information sessions so that you can learn about your interests, be inspired and plan your education and career routes. School and college students are welcome on our activity days, which enhance prior learning and create a new dimension to studying business, management and finance!

So what’s it all about?

Business

Want to achieve career success in the commercial world, both in the public and private sectors? This is the aim of a business management degree programme.  All careers to some extent involve an appreciation of the way the business world operates and how the various functions of organisations, for example marketing, finance and human resources, knit together to make a successful operation. Career opportunities are therefore extremely wide for Business Degree graduates. For example, you may find a career and interest in retailing, buying, supply chain or production management or in the many other general business-orientated specialisms like human resource management (HR), finance, marketing or strategy. Sessions with the Business School may be general overviews giving you an insight into the business world, or may be related to specific topics, such as the ones above, to enhance your learning in various areas.

Business Management

Management ensures organisations achieve their aims. Managers are responsible for running aspects of the business, and management as a profession is one of the fastest growing careers. Using knowledge and experience to solve problems, make decisions, and guide and advise others is the essence of this key responsibility within the world of work.  Preparation for management is demanding, exciting, challenging and very rewarding!

Economics and Finance

The money market is the place to explore and develop learning in applying theory to real-world problems concerning money and the supply of goods and services. For those who are good at handling numbers, and would like to develop an analysis of issues around scarce resources, these subjects develop the ability to apply orderly solutions to very important problems.  Could there be a more appropriate time to study economics and finance..?!

What exactly can we do?

Whether you’re a budding entrepreneur, thinking about business as an option or if you just want to see what a course or career in business would involve, you are very welcome! Our taster sessions for schools and colleges cover a range of topics and can be general or can focus on specific units from the National Curriculum to enhance your school learning. Get your teacher to contact us or send an enquiry form if you’re interested in an activity. We look forward to hearing from you!
