International Student Society

"be proud of who you are, but respect others."

The College is home to a diverse student population from all over the world and from different social and cultural backgrounds. The International Society helps students to settle in and make the best of their time at the RAC, with an ultimate aim of enjoying, learning and sharing each others' experiences, ideas and cultures. The International Society celebrates diversity through many social activities including parties, movies, sightseeing around the UK and celebrations of cultural events that range from Chinese New Year to Africa Day. The Society warmly welcomes new students and plans cultural orientation, trips and activities to help students settle into College life.

All students at the College (both UK and non-UK) are automatically members of the International Society and are therefore welcome to participate in the society's monthly meetings. These meetings form the basis of decision- making on what activities should be going on for entertainment, interaction and cultural celebration at the College. All the meetings are minuted and dates for next meetings and follow-on action plans/events are recorded. These plans are passed to the International Officer and the Student Access Officer and are considered under the Student Support and Advice group at relevant times.

Global Café

Global Café runs on Thursday nights in the Atrium. The Global Café is open to everyone; It is a place to meet people, socialise, relax, learn new skills, find out information on what to do, places to go etc as well as advice and information on specific issues such as exam stress and health issues. Each Global Café night has a different focus, ranging from ‘Just Chill’ workshops for stressful study times (includes meditation, Indian head massage and relaxation techniques), through to celebration events for International Festivals, fundraising events for Global concerns and pretty much everything in between including international sports and films. All are welcome to join.

Food and Wine Appreciation

This society organises visits to local producers, such as cheese makers and vineyards, as well as talks by expert guest speakers and cookery demonstrations in the College’s on-site Food Centre.

Choir

The Choir is open to anyone who is interested in singing. Each year the society sings at the College Candle-lit Christmas Service.

Student Business Club

This is a super opportunity for students at the College to develop entrepreneurial and time-management skills, as well as the planning and execution of their ideas. The club is actively linked with other clubs in universities throughout the south-west region and has participated in annual conferences, such as the Flying Starters. It has the support of the College’s Business Development Centre and lecturers from the School of Business, who act as mentors.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Society

The LGBT is open to everyone and has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The group aims to promote a more open-minded society, inclusive of all. The LGBT society can often be found sampling the local nightlife, as well as trips further afield to other cities and university groups.
