What is Athens?

Athens is simply a service that allows you to get access to a range of electronic resources using a single user name and password rather than having to remember several.

Who can have an Athens account?

All currently registered Royal Agricultural College students and staff.

How do I get an Athens account?

Please follow the instructions below but do note that they have to be carried out using a computer connected to the College network. It cannot be done elsewhere. Once registered you can then access ATHENS resources from anywhere.

1. From a computer on the College network, go to the web site http://www.openathens.net/
2. Click on the Login to MyAthens link then follow the instructions below depending on whether you are a student or member of staff
3. If you are a student:
   Enter username: racselfreg2
   Enter password: rac2007
4. If you are staff:
   Enter username: racselfregstaff
   Enter password: rac2008
5. Fill in the form then displayed completely, making sure your email address is complete and correct. Make a note of your new user name and password after you have chosen them (note that your new user name will automatically start with the prefix rac91 if you are a student and racstaff if you are a member of staff).

After you submit the form, you will receive confirmation by email that your account is set up.

Can I use Athens services from home?

Yes, you can access these services from any computer on or off campus using a suitable web browser. This is because Athens accounts link to a unique user name and password rather than a specific location.
