African Journal Archive

The African Journal Archive is a retrospective digitisation project of full-text journal articles published in Africa, in the Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities, providing access to a multi-disciplinary, multi-country digital archive of Africa’s research and cultural heritage contained in its journal literature.

Agcensus

Agcensus gives access to grid square agricultural census data for England, Scotland and Wales. You will need an Athens username and password to access Agcensus both on and off campus.

BCIS Online

BCIS (Building Costs Information Service) Online gives access to capital cost information on new build, refurbishment and fit out work on over 550 types of building. Used for early cost planning and benchmarking.
Please note that BCIS Online is only available if you are on campus, and if you are unable to access the service it might be due to Internet Explorer's popup blocker which can be disabled from the Tools/Internet Options/Privacy menu. Once you have done this you may need to close then restart your browser.

Bioline International

Bioline International is a non-profit online publishing initiative dedicated to supporting the open dissemination of quality peer-review journals from developing countries. Its goal is to facilitate a truly global exchange of ideas by improving the flow of research knowledge.
 
The platform hosts over 70 full-text journals from over 15 countries - Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Egypt, Ghana, India, Iran, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda and Venezuela. Subject areas include: crop science, tropical medicine, biodiversity, public health and international development.

Britannica Online Academic Edition

Encyclopaedia Britannica Online Academic Edition is an enriched version of the world-renowned encyclopaedia. It contains thousands of articles, links to websites, images, animations and videos, maps, statistics and more.

Business Source Elite

Business Source Elite provides full text coverage for over 1,000 business publications and economics journals, including nearly 500 peer-reviewed publications. Business Source Elite contains full text from the world's top management and marketing journals including Business Week, Forbes, Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Industrial & Labor Relations Review, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Marketing Research (JMR), Journal of Marketing, Journal of International Marketing, etc. This database includes full text (PDF) coverage dating back as far as 1985. More than 10,100 substantial company profiles from Datamonitor are also included.

Digimap

Digimap - Ordnance Survey offers online maps and spatial data of Great Britain.  Logging in is via the UK Federation (type in the name of the College and then enter your Atherns usernamer and password when prompted).

USING DIGIMAP:  To log in to Digimap:
- direct your Web browser to this URL http://edina.ac.uk/digimap
- click the login via UK Federation button and, if requested to do so, choose your institution from the drop-down list and click "Select".
- enter your Athens username and password when prompted.
- agree to the terms and conditions
- the first time you access Digimap you will need to register for the service individually.  Please be aware that it takes 2-3 days for your registration to be approved.

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)

DOAJ covers free, full text, quality-controlled scientific and scholarly journals. It aims to cover all subjects and languages. There are now more than 4000 journals in the Directory.

GreenFILE offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records, as well as Open Access full text for more than 4,700 records.

Global Agricultural Research Archive

CABI's Global Agricultural Research Archive aims to archive agricultural knowledge on behalf of developing countries around the world.This pilot database currently contains over 2,800 full text records from Malawi, Pakistan and the Philippines and from the 2008 IAALD conference on agricultural information and IT.  You can search for journal articles, books, and reports on subjects ranging from crop science to fish farming.

IngentaConnect

IngentaConnect is a database of articles from over 30,000 publications. Where the library subscribes to the print version you will also get access to full-text online.

JSTOR

JSTOR is a full-text scholarly archive containing journals from the Arts and Sciences, Business, and Ecology and Botany. JSTOR is not a "current issues" database. The journals in this archive start from volume 1, issue 1, and typically there is a 1-5 year gap between the latest issue in JSTOR and the most recent issue published.

Oxford Reference Online brings together language and subject reference works from one of the world's biggest reference publishers into a single cross-searchable resource.

It contains over 100 dictionary, language reference, and subject reference works published by Oxford University Press. It is a fully-indexed, cross-searchable database of these books, providing extensive access to a comprehensive information resource.

Planning Law Service Online (LexisNexis Butterworths)

Butterworths Planning Law Service covers recent developments in all aspects of planning law; from development control to the Planning Inspectorate, public enquiries to compensation, and listed buildings to urban regeneration. Our subscription to the Planning Law Service also includes a wide range of sources including the New Law Journal, All England Law Reports (Planning), Planning Law Bulletin etc. etc. You can search for particular cases or perform a keyword search across one or a whole range of subscribed sources.
To access this resource click on the link above. If you are on campus, do not log in with a username or password - simply click on the link that says 'register now' or 'register later', then view and accept the terms and conditions. You will then be able to access the database. If you are off-campus choose the Academic sign-in and enter your Athens username and password.

PubMed

PubMed includes over 14 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950's. These citations are from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources. It should be particularly useful for anyone studying or researching animal science, veterinary science, equine science etc.

RICS isurv is the online database of best practice guidance for surveyors that includes:

SwetsWise

SwetsWise is a database that lists many, but not all, of the journals available to you. These are mostly individual print or electronic journals that we have subscribed to.  It includes full text, table of contents and abstracts.  To see only those journals for which we have full-text select the full-text option in the drop down menu.

When you log in to SwetsWise, all journals will be listed in alphabetical order should you want to browse by title. It is also possible to search across a range of titles using keywords - to do this select content / article search.

Taylor & Francis Geography, Planning, Urban and Environment Online Archive

Free access to over 20,000 articles from 28 journals from the first imprint until 1996 in the subject areas of environment studies, geography, planning studies, and urban studies.  Titles include European Planning Studies, the Journal of Architecture, and the Journal of Environmental Planning and Management.

UK PubMed Central is an online digital archive of full-text, peer-reviewed research publications in the biomedical field. It is particularly useful for anyone researching in the areas of animal science, equine science or veterinary science.

Web of Knowledge

Web of Knowledge is an online service that gives you access to a variety of databases contained in the Web of Science and ISI Proceedings.

The Web of Science contains current and retrospective multidisciplinary information from approximately 8,700 of the most prestigious, high impact research journals in the world.

ISI Proceedings contains bibliographic information and author abstracts from papers delivered at prestigious international conferences, symposia, seminars, colloquia, workshops and conventions.

Z

ZETOC

ZETOC provides access to the British Library's Electronic Table of Contents for journals and conference proceedings. It covers approximately 20,000 current journals, and 16,000 conference proceedings. All areas of academic study are covered.
